The A5 six-ring pattern
Six rings in two groups of three. Within each group the spacing is 19.05 mm, three quarters of an inch. Between the groups it is 69.85 mm, two and three quarter inches. That gives a total hole span of 146.05 mm on the 210 mm edge, leaving just under 32 mm clear at the top and bottom.
The files add a 15 mm allowance on the punched edge and mirror it across the spread, so the left page is punched left and the right page is punched right. Getting that backwards is invisible until the sheets are in the binder and half your writing is under the rings.
Compatibility
A5 six-ring inserts fit A5-size personal organisers from Filofax, kikki.K, Van der Spek and most other makers using the standard A5 pattern. Note that seven-ring Franklin Covey and Day-Timer Half Letter binders use a completely different pattern, 25.4 and 38.1 mm spacing on a differently sized page, and A5 inserts will not fit them.
